What Is a Vacuum Mop Robot? How One Machine Vacuums and Mops in One Pass

A vacuum mop robot picks up dust and then wipes the floor in the same pass. Here is how the combination works, what to look for, and how the HOBOT LEGEE-688 approaches it.

Last updated: October 2026

A vacuum mop robot is a floor robot that vacuums and mops in one run. The front picks up dust, hair and crumbs. The back wipes the floor with a damp pad. The HOBOT LEGEE-688 does four things in a single pass: vacuum, dry mop, spray and wet mop, with a pad that moves up to 600 times a minute.

How does a vacuum mop robot work?

It combines two machines in one body.

  1. Vacuum. A suction inlet at the front collects loose debris into a dustbin.
  2. Mop. A pad at the rear wipes the surface. Depending on the design, it is dragged, vibrated or scrubbed back and forth.
  3. Water. A small tank wets the pad or sprays the floor ahead of it.
  4. Navigation. Sensors map the room and plan parallel lines so the whole floor is covered once.

The order matters. Vacuuming first means the mop is not pushing grit around.

Why combine them?

Because hard floors need both. Vacuuming alone leaves the fine film that makes floors look dull: footprints, dried drips, kitchen haze. Mopping alone on an unswept floor turns dust into streaks. Doing both in one pass saves a second run and a second machine.

How is a robot mop different from a robot vacuum with a mop pad?

It is a matter of emphasis.

  • A robot vacuum with a mop attachment is a vacuum first. The pad is often a damp cloth dragged behind.
  • A vacuum mop robot is designed around the mopping. The pad is powered, and water is applied in a controlled way.

If your home is mostly carpet, you want a vacuum. If it is mostly hard floor, the mopping action is what you will notice.

How does the HOBOT LEGEE-688 do it?

HOBOT calls it a 4-in-1: vacuum, dry mop, spray and wet mop in one pass. From HOBOT's listing:

What is FastBrush mopping?

Instead of dragging a wet cloth, the LEGEE moves its pad back and forth, up to 600 times a minute per HOBOT. That is closer to how a person mops: a scrubbing motion that works on a mark instead of sliding over it. Spraying is one of the four functions, so water is applied by the robot as it works, not by soaking the pad beforehand.

What do the modes do?

HOBOT's Talent Clean gives seven preset programs. The names tell you the intent:

  • Standard: everyday cleaning.
  • Strong: more effort for dirtier floors.
  • ECO: longest coverage per charge, up to 150 m².
  • Kitchen: for the room with the most spills.
  • Dry: vacuum and dry mop, no water.
  • Pet: for homes with animals.
  • Polish: a finishing pass.

Dry mode is useful on floors you prefer not to wet often, and in winter when floors dry slowly.

Which floors suit a vacuum mop robot?

  • Good: sealed hardwood, tile, stone, vinyl, laminate.
  • Check first: unsealed or waxed wood, and any floor whose maker limits moisture. Use Dry mode or a light setting.
  • Not suited: carpet and thick rugs. A mopping robot is for hard floors.

The LEGEE has a D-shaped body with one flat edge, as HOBOT's product photos show. A straight edge sits closer to baseboards and corners than a fully round body can.

What does it not do?

  • It does not replace a deep clean. Sticky dried spills and built-up grime may need a hand mop first.
  • It does not climb stairs.
  • It does not look after its own pad. Plan to rinse or swap the pad after a run, as HOBOT's manual directs.
  • It does not handle carpet.

What should you compare when buying?

  1. Mopping action: dragged, vibrating or scrubbing.
  2. Water control: spray or drip, and adjustable or not.
  3. Navigation: laser mapping cleans in straight lines and misses less.
  4. Runtime and coverage against your floor area.
  5. Modes for dry-only and for kitchens or pets.
  6. Shape: a flat edge for corners.
  7. App: map, schedules and updates.
  8. Upkeep: pad washing, bin size, filter cost.

How much floor is 150 m²?

About 1,600 square feet, which is the hard floor area of a good-sized home. That is HOBOT's figure for one charge in ECO mode. Stronger modes use more energy and cover less.

How do you get good results?

  • Pick up first. Cables, socks, toys and pet bowls.
  • Start with a clean pad.
  • Use clean water, or only the solution the maker recommends.
  • Run it often. Daily light cleaning beats a weekly battle.
  • Empty the bin and rinse the pad after each run.
  • Schedule it for when the house is empty.

Is it useful in winter?

More than at any other time. Winter brings road salt, grit, wet boots and mud to the door, and closed windows mean dust stays in. A daily run through the entry and kitchen keeps the salt film from building up. It is also why searches for robot mops climb at this time of year.

What other home robots are there?

Window cleaning is the other household chore robots have taken on. HOBOT makes two window robots: the HOBOT-298 and the HOBOT-2S. See do window cleaning robots work? and HOBOT-2S vs HOBOT-298.

Who is a vacuum mop robot for?

  • Homes that are mostly hard floor.
  • Pet owners dealing with paw prints and hair.
  • Busy households where mopping is the chore that gets skipped.
  • Anyone who finds mopping physically hard.

It is less useful in a fully carpeted home.

What is the takeaway?

A vacuum mop robot does the two hard-floor jobs in one pass. Look closely at how the pad moves and how water is applied, since that is what separates real mopping from a damp wipe.
