Robot Window Cleaner Support

Window cleaning robots are the only machines we sell that operate at height while attached to glass by suction. Safety setup is not optional on this category, and it is the first thing we check when something goes wrong.

Safety first: the tether

These machines hold themselves to glass with suction and stay powered while they work. The safety rope or tether is what stops a unit reaching the ground if suction is lost or power is interrupted. Attach it, every time, to a fixed anchor point that can take the weight — before the robot touches the glass.

Do not run a window robot on an exterior window in wind, rain, or snow. Manufacturers state this plainly and it is the condition under which units are most often lost.

What typically goes wrong

  • Suction loss or slipping. Dirty or worn sealing rings, a pad soaked past its useful point, or textured, frosted, or patterned glass the machine cannot seal against.
  • Edge detection errors. Frameless glass, black or very dark frames, and mirrored surfaces confuse edge sensors, producing units that stop short of the edge or try to cross it.
  • Streaking. Almost always a saturated or dirty pad, too much cleaning solution, or working in direct sun so the solution dries before it is wiped.
  • Missed sections. Small panes, deep mullions, and irregular window shapes limit path planning; some panes are simply below the minimum size the machine can work.
  • Stops mid-pane and holds. A power interruption puts most units into a protective hold on the glass. That is intended behavior — the backup battery exists to keep it attached until you retrieve it.
  • Noise complaints. The vacuum pump is loud by design. Some models offer a quieter mode at reduced suction; not all do.

Setup fundamentals

Check the glass is suitable

Confirm the pane meets your model's minimum size, and that the surface is smooth and non-textured. Frosted, patterned, wired, and heavily coated glass are common exclusions. Check for cracks before attaching anything — suction on damaged glass is a hazard.

Keep it plugged in

Most window robots run on mains power throughout and carry only a backup battery for emergencies. That battery is a safety reserve, not a runtime feature. Route the cable so it cannot snag or be pulled taut as the machine moves.

Pads and solution

Fit a clean, correctly seated pad for each session and change it when it stops being damp-clean. Use the manufacturer's cleaning solution — household glass cleaners foam, and foam breaks the seal the machine depends on. Never apply solution directly to the glass unless the manual says to.

Clean the sealing ring and sensors

The rubber sealing ring around the suction chamber is the single most important wear part. Wipe it after each use, inspect it for nicks and hardening, and replace it on schedule. Wipe the edge sensors at the same time.

Work indoors first

Learn the machine's behavior on interior glass at ground level before running it on an exterior upper-floor window. It is a short exercise that prevents the expensive kind of mistake.
