Yes. A window cleaning robot holds to the glass by suction, wipes in a planned pattern and saves the ladder work. Here is what it does well, where it leaves a little for you, and how the safety systems work.

Yes. A window cleaning robot holds itself to the glass with suction, drives a planned path and wipes with a microfiber cloth, often with a fine water mist. It works well for regular cleaning of large and hard-to-reach panes. It will not scrub off baked-on grime in one pass, and square robots leave a small unwiped area in corners.

Four systems do the job.
Suction. A motor and fan pull air from under the robot, pressing it to the glass. The HOBOT-298 holds with 6.0 kg of suction from a Nidec brushless motor, per HOBOT.
Drive. Treads or wheels move the robot across the glass while it stays attached.
Cleaning. A microfiber cloth on the base wipes as it travels. Models with a spray system mist the glass first. HOBOT's ultrasonic nozzle runs at 108 kHz and breaks water into 15 μm droplets.
Navigation. Sensors find the edges, and the robot follows a set pattern so it covers the whole pane.
You place it on the glass, press start and it finishes by returning to where it began.
The real benefit is that you are not on a ladder.
Three layers of protection address this.
| Safety feature | HOBOT-298 | HOBOT-2S |
|---|---|---|
| Suction | 6.0 kg, Nidec brushless motor | Suction hold |
| Backup battery | Li-Po, 20 minutes, with alert | 20 minutes if the power drops |
| Safety rope | Rated 150 kgf | 4.5 m rope |
| Edge detection | Linear cleaning modes | Edge-Leakage Sensors, including frameless panes |
Figures per HOBOT. The backup battery keeps the fan running if the power is cut, and the robot sounds an alert so you can retrieve it. The safety rope is the last line: HOBOT's instruction is to tie it to an indoor fixture before every run. Use it every time, especially on upper floors.
That depends on edge sensing. A robot that only knows it has reached the edge by bumping a frame cannot work on a frameless pane or a glass balustrade. The HOBOT-2S has Edge-Leakage Sensors that detect glass edges, including frameless panes, per HOBOT.
They work on the outside face of a window. The practical setup is to reach the outer side from inside: open the window, attach the robot, tie the rope indoors and let the cord pass through the opening. For weather limits, follow the maker's manual. Do not run one in rain or on wet glass.

On glass that is cleaned regularly, good: clear, with few streaks. Results depend heavily on the cloth.
It varies with size and mode. A robot is not faster than a skilled person with a squeegee on an easy window. It wins on windows that are hard to reach and on the fact that you are doing something else while it works.
| HOBOT figure | HOBOT-298 | HOBOT-2S |
|---|---|---|
| Spray | One ultrasonic nozzle, 108 kHz | Two ultrasonic nozzles, 108 kHz |
| Edge sensing | Standard | Edge-Leakage Sensors, frameless panes |
| Corners | Standard pad | About 80% corner coverage |
| Modes | 3 automatic | Zigzag then N-way, 3 automatic |
| App | Not listed | HOBOT app, firmware updates, voice prompts |

They are worth it if you have:
They are less worthwhile for a home with a few small, easy windows or many tiny divided panes.
Indoor glass is a year-round job, and winter sun shows every streak. A window robot is one of the few home robots with no off season. For outside faces in freezing weather, wait for a mild, dry day and follow the manual.

They work, within clear limits. Treat a window robot as a way to keep glass clean with no ladder, not as a one-pass fix for neglected windows.

Yes, for regular cleaning of large and hard-to-reach glass. They wipe with a microfiber cloth along a planned path. Heavy grime needs a manual clean first.
Not fully. A square robot cannot reach into a square corner. HOBOT states about 80% corner coverage for the HOBOT-2S.
They use suction, a backup battery and a safety rope. The HOBOT-298 has 6.0 kg of suction, a 20 minute backup battery and a rope rated 150 kgf. Tie the rope to an indoor fixture before every run.
Only models with edge sensing. The HOBOT-2S has Edge-Leakage Sensors that detect glass edges, including frameless panes.
It depends on the model. HOBOT lists a minimum of 40 x 40 cm for the HOBOT-298.
HOBOT lists 64 dB at 1 meter for the HOBOT-298.
