Yarbo Snow Plow Blade vs Snow Blower: Which Do You Need?

The Yarbo Snow Plow Blade is not a separate way to clear snow. It is an accessory that requires the Snow Blower Module. Here is what each one does and when the blade earns its place.

Last updated: October 2026

You need the Snow Blower Module either way. Yarbo lists the Snow Plow Blade as an accessory that requires the Snow Blower Module, so it is an addition, not an alternative. The blower throws snow 6 to 40 feet away. The blade pushes wet and packed snow, and also moves dirt, gravel and mulch the rest of the year.

What is the Yarbo Snow Blower Module?

It is Yarbo's main winter tool: a two-stage snow blower that mounts on the Yarbo Core. An auger gathers snow across a 24 inch path, and an impeller throws it out of a chute that turns from -10° to 190°. Yarbo rates it for dry, wet and packed snow on paved, concrete and gravel surfaces.

You can buy it with a Core as the Y40 Snow Blower or Y40P Snow Blower, or as a module for a Core you already own: the Snow Blower Module or the Y40P Snow Blower Module.

What is the Yarbo Snow Plow Blade?

The Yarbo Snow Plow Blade is a compact blade accessory. Yarbo's listing gives these facts:

  • Built for clearing wet and packed snow.
  • Also moves dirt, gravel and mulch, so it has uses in every season.
  • Replaceable wear bar.
  • 25.5 x 13.8 x 13.8 inches, 11 lb.
  • Requires the Yarbo Snow Blower Module.

That last line is the one that answers the question in the title.

How do the two compare?

Throwing vs pushing: what is the difference in practice?

Throwing removes snow from the area. It lands 6 to 40 feet away, on the lawn or wherever you aim the chute. Nothing builds up at the edges, so the drive stays its full width all winter. Throwing takes more energy per pass.

Pushing moves snow to the end of the pass and leaves it there. It is quick and simple in shallow snow. The cost is the pile: each storm adds to the banks, and by midwinter those banks can narrow the driveway. Pushing needs a place for the snow to go.

Our general guide snow blower vs snow plow covers this trade for any machine.

When does the blade make sense?

Yarbo describes the blade as built for wet and packed snow. Those are the conditions where pushing can be the easier way to move material.

  • Wet, slushy snow that is heavy to throw.
  • Packed snow left by tires or foot traffic.
  • Short pushes where the snow has a clear place to go.
  • Other seasons: spreading mulch, moving loose dirt or leveling gravel.

For how the blade mounts and when to fit it, follow Yarbo's instructions for the part. If you want to know whether it suits a particular job on your property, ask us and we will confirm with Yarbo before you order.

When is the blower alone enough?

For most driveways, the Snow Blower Module on its own does the winter. It handles the snow types Yarbo lists, it leaves no banks, and it is what the per-charge coverage figures are based on: up to 6,000 sq ft on the Y40 and 7,000 sq ft on the Y40P in 1 inch of snow.

Do you need a Core as well?

Yes. Neither part drives itself. The chain is:

  1. Yarbo Core (Y40 or Y40P): the tracked robot with the battery and navigation.
  2. Snow Blower Module: mounts on the Core.
  3. Snow Plow Blade: an accessory that requires the Snow Blower Module.

If you are starting from nothing, a Snow Blower package includes the first two. If you already mow with a Yarbo, you add the module. The Your Yarbo System page shows what works with what you own.

What other winter accessories does Yarbo make?

The blade is one of several parts for snow season:

Our Yarbo winter checklist puts these in order of priority.

What about a remote control plow?

If what you want is a plow, pushing snow with a simpler machine, there is a different product for that. The Mowrator S1 4WD Snow Plow Bundle pairs a remote control mower with a 31.5 inch plow blade that angles from -20° to 20°. You steer it. It does not drive itself, and Mowrator positions it for light to moderate snow. See the remote control snow plow.

Which should you order?

  • You have no Yarbo: a Snow Blower package. Decide on the blade later, once you have seen a winter.
  • You own a Core and mow with it: the Snow Blower Module that matches your Core.
  • You own the Snow Blower Module and get a lot of wet, packed snow, or want a blade for yard jobs: add the Snow Plow Blade.
  • You want only a plow and no blower: the Yarbo blade is not that. Look at a remote control plow.

What are common mix-ups?

  • "The blade is a cheaper way to get a Yarbo that clears snow." It is not. It needs the Snow Blower Module.
  • "The blade replaces the blower in deep snow." Deep snow is what the blower's 12 inch intake and 40 ft throw are for.
  • "Plow means the Yarbo Core pushes snow by itself." The Core needs a module to do any job.

Yarbo's 2-year limited warranty covers the Core and modules. Accessories follow Yarbo's warranty policy. Core packages ship by free freight. For parts, shipping cost and delivery estimate are shown at checkout.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the Yarbo Snow Plow Blade without the Snow Blower Module?

No. Yarbo lists the Snow Plow Blade as requiring the Yarbo Snow Blower Module.

What is the Yarbo Snow Plow Blade for?
